Hibachi Steak Recipe with Fried Rice

Don't Lose This Recipe

I love Japanese food, and my husband is very fond of Hibachi in particular. But, it’s so expensive! So, we don’t indulge very often. But, last week we decided to try a Hibachi steak recipe with fried rice at home. It turned out very tasty. The steak was nice and tender and the sauce on it had a bold, Japanese flavor. The rice was good, too, though it didn’t have the right texture for Hibachi fried rice…I never can manage to get the firm, pleasant texture on homemade rice that Asian restaurants always have, whether I use instant rice, or regular rice. But, it was, nevertheless, a successful meal that we would eat again. The separate recipes for the steak and rice are below.

Hibachi Steak

Ingredients

  • 4 5oz sirloin steaks
  • 4 tsp oil
  • 1 large onion diced
  • 8 large mushrooms sliced thick
  • 2 cups bean sprouts
  • 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 3 Tbsp teryaki or stir fry sauce

Japanese Fried Rice

  • 2 packages Uncle Ben’s Original Ready Rice
  • 4 tsp oil
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1/2 cup finely diced green onions
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas thawed
  • 1 medium carrot finely chopped
  • 4 tsp low sodium soy sauce
  • 4 tsp teriyaki or stir fry sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Heat the oil in a nonstick skillet. Sauté the onion until slightly browned and soft. Place the steak cubes in the skilled with the mushrooms and cook until the steak reaches the desired degree of doneness. Add the bean sprouts, soy sauce, salt, pepper, and steak sauce. Stir until well mixed, then serve.

Japanese Fried Rice

  • Cook rice according to the package directions then empty into a mixing bowl. In a large skillet, heat 2 tsp oil and sramble the eggs into small pieces until fully cooked. Empty the scrambled eggs into the mixing bowl with the rice and stir.
  • Using the same skillet, heat 2 tsp oil, the green onions, peas, and carrots and let simmer on low heat for 5 minutes. Gradually add the rice and egg mixture to the skillet, stirring in one scoop at a time, until all the rice and vegetables are mixed together. Slowly add the soy sauce and stir fry sauce, and stir over low heat until the rice is golden brown. Add salt and pepper to taste and serve.
