Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 4 2.5 ounce jars of dried beef, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon fresh black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • Toasted bread your choice of bread

Instructions

  • Melt Butter: In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
  • Make the Roux: Add flour to the butter and whisk for 1 minute.
  • Add Milk: Slowly add the milk while whisking, then simmer until the sauce thickens (about 5 minutes).
  • Add Beef: Stir in chopped beef and black pepper. Cook for an additional 2 minutes until heated through.
  • Serve: Spoon over toasted bread and enjoy!

Notes

  • If you find dried beef too salty, soak it in water for 10 minutes, then rinse and pat dry before using it.
  • You can also make this dish with leftover corned beef or even country ham for a twist.
