Ingredients
  

  • 21 oz boiled and mashed russet potatoes about 3 medium potatoes
  • 14 oz boiled and mashed turnips about 2 medium turnips
  • 3 oz unsalted butter divided
  • 9 oz green cabbage thinly sliced (about 1/2 a head)
  • 1 oz sharp cheddar cheese grated (about 1/4 cup)
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9x9 inch baking dish with butter.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt 2 oz of butter. Add sliced cabbage and sauté for 5 minutes until slightly softened.
  3. In a large bowl, combine mashed potatoes, mashed turnips, sautéed cabbage, remaining 1 oz butter, salt and pepper. Mash together well.
  4. Transfer mixture to prepared baking dish and spread evenly. Top with grated cheddar cheese.
  5. Bake for 30 minutes covered with foil. Uncover and bake 5 more minutes until top is lightly browned.
  6. Let sit 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
