Impossible Cheeseburger Pie

WANT TO SAVE THIS RECIPE?

Impossible Cheeseburger Pie is one of the most mouthwatering and irresistible savory pies that you’ll ever try. With its beefy, cheesy flavor, it seriously tastes just like a cheeseburger! My boyfriend Matty ate nearly a whole pie by himself, he loved it so much. When I finally got my fork in for a bite, I understood his delight completely. This easy meat pie recipe delivers major comfort food satisfaction.

You likely have all the simple ingredients on hand already – ground beef, onion, cheddar cheese, eggs, Bisquick, milk, and onion soup mix. Even novice cooks can whip up this pie in under an hour. It’s practically impossible to mess up. Take it from Matty, who declares it’s “the BEST savory pie ever!”

Should I Use Lean or Fattier Ground Beef?

Both lean and fattier ground beef would work well, lending lots of meaty flavor! I prefer lean beef because there’s already plenty of satisfying flavor from the cheese, eggs, onion soup mix, etc. With 80% lean beef, you’ll still get nice browning on the meat. Draining excess grease also prevents the pie from getting overly oily. But if you love the mouthfeel of fattier burgers, 85% or even 70% lean beef would make this pie extra decadent!

What Type of Onion Works Best?

Sweet onions like Vidalia or Walla Walla add nice subtle sweetness against the savory flavors. But you could use yellow, white or red onions too. Red onions may lend a prettier pinkish hue blended into the filling. The key is to sauté until the onion softens and becomes translucent, releasing its flavor. Caramelized onions would add even more depth and sweetness!

Should I Use Shredded or Sliced Cheese?

Good news – both shredded and sliced cheddar cheese work wonderfully! Shredded melts into the pie a bit easier. Meanwhile, slices maintain more distinct gooey, stringy texture. So just depends if you want creamy melted or stringy cheese texture. For optimal flavor, use good quality real cheddar, not processed cheese product.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb Lean Ground Beef
  • 1 cup Chopped Sweet Onion
  • 1 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 2 tbsp Onion Soup Mix
  • ½ cup Bisquick
  • 2 Large Eggs

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and onion until the beef is browned and the onion is softened. Drain any excess grease.
  3. Transfer the beef and onion mixture into a greased 9-inch pie pan.
  4. Evenly sprinkle the shredded cheese over the meat.
  5. In a medium bowl, combine milk, onion soup mix, Bisquick, and eggs. Whisk together until smooth.
  6. Pour this mixture over the meat and cheese in the pie plate.
  7. Bake for 25 minutes. Allow the pie to cool for a few minutes before serving.
